HIGHER LEVEL SKILLS PROGRAM

The Queensland Government’s ‘VET Investment Programs” provides eligible Queenslanders access to government subsidised training.

The following key programs are part of the VET Investment Programs

You can check your potential eligibility for Queensland Subsidised Training, such as Certificate 3 Guarantee, Higher Level Skills, an Apprenticeship or Traineeship or Skilling Queenslanders for Work by using the Queensland Skills Gateway Eligibility Check Tool

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills Program a participant must:

  • Be aged 15 years or above and no longer at school
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
  • Not hold, and not be enrolled in, a certificate IV or higher-level qualification. However, if completed while at secondary school is acceptable (Evidence will need to be supplied)
  • Please note – For enrolments into Certificate IV in Hospitality students must be an existing worker in the Tourism and Hospitality industry and provide proof of employment upon enrolment

For subsidised training in higher level skills, eligibility may have further restrictions for certain qualifications

WOULD I QUALIFY AS A CONCESSIONAL PARTICIPANT?

A concession may apply to certain participants;

  1. Hold a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a current Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and is named on the card
  2. Able to provide the PQS with an official form under Commonwealth law confirming that the student, their partner or the person of whom the student is a dependant is entitled to concessions under a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  3. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander – Self Indication on Enrolment Form Required
  4. School students who are enrolling into a VETiS program (may include young people in detention)
  5. Participants with a disability – Pensioner concession card or other documentation verifying disability to be provided
  6. An Adult Prisoner

CO-CONTRIBUTION FEES

  • Co-Contribution Fees apply to all students who enroll into a Higher Level Skills funded program
    • The amount payable is determined by Axiom College and calculated per unit.
    • No fee is payable on units that have been resulted as  “Credit Transfer” from previous study
    • Payment of co-contribution fees will be calculated per unit on the individual training plan, and invoiced at the time of enrolment.
      • Students may choose to pay for all units on enrolment, or on commencement of each unit

  • REFUNDS – Upon notification of cancellation of a Learner’s enrollment into a Certificate 3 Guarantee or Higher Level Skills Program Axiom College provides refunds for student co-contribution fees charged for units of competency that have not been completed at the time of cancellation of enrolment to the payee.
    • Axiom College will provide 100% refunds to Learners for Co-Contribution fees charged for units of competency where training delivery has not commenced at the time of cancellation of enrolment
    • Axiom College will not provide a refund to Learners for Co-Contribution fees charged for units of competency where training delivery has commenced at the time of the cancellation of enrolment

The only exceptions to the fee condition are:

  • VETiS students — this training is provided fee-free to students with any additional costs met by the school
  • Foundation skills — this training can be provided fee-free to students, as determined by the RTO

  • Before you commit to accepting any subsidised training be aware that you may preclude yourself from any future subsidised training. If you have any concerns please discuss this with Axiom College.
  • You will be required to complete a student training and employment survey within 3 months of completing or discontinuing your qualification.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Assessment will only be carried out for accredited training where a qualification, statement of attainment or licence may be issued.

Assessment will be carried out on the submission of completed unit/s of competency. Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at Axiom College, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning. Assessment evidence submitted by the student will be marked and feedback given advising whether the evidence is satisfactory (successful) or unsatisfactory (unsuccessful). Additional feedback may be provided as required. All evidence is retained by Axiom College.

SUBMITTING COMPLETED ASSESSMENTS

Students can submit completed assessments for marking through the online student portal or by handing to an Axiom College Trainer during face to face training.

The Student Support Centre aims to deliver an integrated professional service to all students and employers. This is achieved by providing quality customer service to enhance the overall learning experience.
